The Science of Seanol®
Where does Seanol® come from?
Seanol® is extracted from Ecklonia cava, a species of brown seaweed found exclusively in the deep coastal waters off South Korea. Through adaptation to a harsh marine environment, Ecklonia cava developed a unique class of polyphenols called phlorotannins with distinct structural properties compared to their land-based counterparts.
What are phlorotannins?
Phlorotannins are the active compounds in Seanol® responsible for its health benefits. Think of them as the seaweed's natural defence system — built to fight oxidative stress, inflammation, and cellular damage. What makes them special is their structure: they are soluble in both water and fat, meaning they can penetrate cell membranes and even cross the blood-brain barrier — something most antioxidants cannot do.
How does Seanol® compare to other antioxidants?
Seanol® marine polyphenols exhibit dual solubility in both lipids and water, distinguishing them from many land-based antioxidants. Research indicates they remain active in the body for up to 12 hours and demonstrate potent free radical scavenging activity in laboratory studies.
